Case Overview
In November 2025, Skeeter, a 14-week-old Doodle puppy weighing 9.4 lbs (4.3 kg), was brought in after an accident on November 12th. He had sustained a mid-shaft fracture of both the radius and ulna in his left forelimb, an injury that can be particularly concerning in young, growing dogs.
With prompt evaluation and surgical care, Skeeter was given an excellent chance for a normal outcome.

Surgical Approach
The procedure was performed by Dr. Jeff Mayo. To restore alignment and stability, both the radius and ulna were repaired through bone plating. A 2.0 mm titanium LeiLOX locking plate system was selected to provide secure fixation appropriate for a small, developing patient. Attention was given to preserving soft tissues and maintaining proper positioning to support healthy bone healing. Following surgery, Skeeter’s limb was placed in a splint for four weeks to protect the repair and minimize stress during early recovery.

Recovery Progress
Skeeter handled the recovery phase very hell:
- Splintin Period: The limb remained well-supported throughout the four-week splint duration
- Regaining Function: After splint removal, Skeeter began using the leg more freely and gained confidence quickly.
- Outcome: The fracture healed without complications, and Skeeter returned to normal, comfortable use of the limb.
Today, he is moving around like a typical energetic puppy again.

Conclusion
Skeeter’s case shows how timely diagnostics, thoughtful surgical planning, and appropriate implant selection can lead to a smooth recovery, even in very young patients with dual-bone forelimb fractures. Early stabilization and careful post-operative management played key roles in achieving a positive outcome.
